About Apartment Cats in one line: it is a research site for people who keep a cat in a small home, whether that is a studio, a one-bedroom, a rental with a no-screws rule or a fourth-floor walk-up with the litter delivered to the lobby.

Who writes Apartment Cats

Illustrated portrait of Claire Hollis

Claire Hollis researches, writes and edits every page. She is not a vet and does not play one here. Her job is the reading: what feline vets have agreed in their guidelines, what the studies measured, what shelters teach new adopters and what makers print in their manuals, followed by the arithmetic that turns them into something you can check with a tape measure.

About Apartment Cats: what the site does

Small homes turn cat care into a space problem. The box has to be long enough for the cat and short enough for the bathroom. A cat tree has to give height without taking the only free corner, and a fountain has to sit apart from the food bowl in a kitchen with one counter. So the site measures: box length from your cat’s length, footprints against real rooms, running costs from listed wattage and filter schedules. The box size check on the home page is the first of those tools, and more are on the way.

Six hubs hold the guides: litter, small space, feeding and water, enrichment, care and tools. If you have just brought a cat home, Start here walks through the first week.

What it never claims

  • That a product was tried at home. No page is based on trying products, and pages that name products carry a “Researched, not tested” label.
  • Medical advice, feeding amounts or doses. Those belong to your vet and the food label.
  • Star ratings or “best seller” badges borrowed from a store.

The full method, from source tiers to how a top pick is chosen, is on How we research. Questions and corrections reach Claire through the contact page.

How it is paid for

The site earns a small commission when a reader buys through one of its Amazon links, at no extra cost to the reader. Apartment Cats is part of the Amazon Associates program and earns from qualifying purchases. That money pays for the research time. It never decides which product comes first on a page.
