Cat tools and printables for small homes turn the numbers in our guides into answers for your own floor plan, week and budget. The tools run in your browser and send nothing to a server, and every printable downloads directly, with no email sign-up.

What each tool answers

  • Is it big enough? The cat measuring tool sizes a litter box from your cat’s length, counts the boxes you need, tests litter depth and post height, and works out the litter a month takes.
  • Will it fit? The space-fit planner checks a room’s free floor against the published footprints of cat trees, litter boxes, feeders and fountains, and sizes the box at 1.5 times your cat’s length.
  • What do we play this week? The enrichment plan builder lays out seven days of short play sessions and food puzzles, with cards for rotating toys.
  • How much litter, and what does it cost? The cat litter calculator works from the size of your boxes, the fill and your cleaning routine to liters and pounds a month, then bags and money at your own price.
  • How much food, and what feeder setting? The cat food calculator takes your cat’s weight and the calories on your food label to a starting range for the day, then splits it into meals and whole feeder portions.
  • How much water, and how much from the bowl? The cat water calculator gives a rough daily range from your cat’s weight, takes off the water in its food and shows what is left to drink.
  • What does a cat cost us? The cat cost calculator adds your own food, litter, pet rent, vet, insurance, sitter and setup costs into a month, a year and the first year.
  • How old is that in human years? The cat age calculator converts years and months with International Cat Care’s chart and names the AAHA and AAFP life stage.
  • Is this plant safe for my home? The houseplant safety checker looks a plant up on the ASPCA’s toxic and non-toxic lists by common or scientific name.
  • What does a weekend away cost? The calculator sets a sitter’s visits against boarding and against gear plus a friend’s visits, and prices the gear’s electricity at the US average rate.

Not sure where to begin? Most readers start with the cat measuring tool, because one tape measure reading answers the litter box length, how much litter a month takes and how tall the scratching post should be.

Planners and calculators

A value a tool fills in for you is either a labeled example or a sourced figure, explained on the tool’s page, and you can type over any of them with your own numbers. The electricity default, for example, is the US Energy Information Administration’s average residential price: 18.31 cents per kWh in July 2026, 4.9% higher than a year before.

Measure twice before you trust any planner, ours included. First the floor where the thing will stand, then the room it needs in use: space in front of a litter box entry for the cat to turn, height above a feeder for its lid to open, and the swing of any door or cabinet that crosses the spot. A footprint that fits on paper can still block a bathroom door by two inches.

Printables

Sheets made for a fridge door or a sitter’s first visit: two pages of instructions for whoever looks after your cat, a tracker for scooping, full litter changes and fountain filters, a checklist for a cat’s first weeks and one for a weekend away. Each one prints on US Letter and on A4.

Ready to buy once the numbers are in? Our picks gathers the top pick from every guide on one page, each linked to the guide that chose it.

Questions about the tools

Do the tools save or send my numbers?

Neither. Each tool runs in your browser, works from what you type and sends nothing to a server, so your numbers are gone when you close the page. Write down a result you want to keep, or print the page.

Does the measuring tool work in centimeters?

The cat measuring tool has an inch and centimeter switch, and switching converts the numbers already in the fields. Product footprints in our guides give inches first with centimeters in brackets, so either unit matches up. Type the length in whichever unit your tape shows.

Are the printables free?

All of them, with no email sign-up: each one downloads straight from its page as a PDF, in a US Letter version and an A4 version, so you can pick the one that matches the paper in your printer.
