An automatic cat feeder for wet food is a covered tray that opens on a timer, kept cool by frozen ice packs or, in one model, by a built-in cooler. Choose it by how many meals you need in one day and how long the cooling lasts, because none of the feeders here holds opened wet food at refrigerator temperature.

Which wet-food automatic feeder to choose
For most apartments, choose the Cat Mate C500: five covered bowls, a digital timer and two ice packs, run by three AA batteries that Closer Pets says last about 12 months, so no cable crosses the floor.

Key takeaways
- No feeder here keeps wet food at fridge temperature: Catit’s own ice pack example lasts about 6 hours, and Polar’s lab figure is 54°F. → cooling limits
- Count the meals you need in one day; the C500 repeats the same times each day and cannot start a day ahead. → tray layouts
- The two Cat Mates run on AA batteries; the PIXI and Polar need an outlet nearby. → room and power
- Every bowl or tray here lifts out for the dishwasher, but the base never goes in. → daily cleanup

Four models from three makers, each chosen for a different job rather than five near-copies. None of the makers publishes a noise figure; Catit calls the PIXI’s operation silent but gives no decibel number. Where a maker publishes no outside size, the table says so instead of borrowing a retailer’s figure.
Count tray openings, not days away
A wet cat food dispenser in this group simply uncovers food you loaded earlier. The useful question is how many meals it can uncover, and when, before someone has to clear the tray.

The C500 maker page separates the bowl that is open at setup from the four timed openings, so five bowls means four future meals. Its support page adds two limits. The times repeat: set two meals and it serves at those two times on both days, so you cannot pick 9 a.m. one day and 10 a.m. the next. And it cannot start a day in advance, so a first meal tomorrow morning means loading it tomorrow.
The C200 uses two lids, each on its own quartz dial that runs up to 48 hours ahead, over bowls that Closer Pets rates at 400 g (14 oz) each. Closer Pets calls the dial an analogue timer and says it cannot open to the exact minute. A supplied lid-link clip opens both lids together, which the maker pitches for two pets fed at the same time; this guide makes no promise about two cats sharing one feeder peacefully.
The PIXI’s six compartments sit on a tray that turns to the next meal and keeps the rest out of reach. Catit says the tray stops and turns back when it meets resistance, so a paw in the opening is not trapped, and the panel can be locked. The general feeder selection guide covers the wider choice between tray and hopper feeders.
Ice packs need a cooling routine
An automatic canned cat food feeder does not make opened food shelf-stable. The FDA’s pet-food handling advice is to promptly refrigerate or throw out unused canned and pouched food, with the refrigerator at 40°F or below. Read every cooling claim on this page against that number.

Catit is unusually candid about ice packs. In its own example, a freshly frozen pair keeps the office cat’s wet food cooled for about 6 hours, then gradually loses its effect depending on the room, and the late meals are kibble. Closer Pets gives no hour figure: its support page says it depends on where the feeder sits and the room temperature, and suggests freezing a pack and leaving it in that room to see.
That points to a plan rather than a product: wet food in the meals that come within a few hours of loading, dry food for the late ones if your vet is happy with both. Never treat a feeder timer’s longest setting as a safety deadline for your cat’s food.
Picture loading the tray before work and finding the packs still in the dish rack. Keep a second set in the freezer if you can spare the space, and choose a routine you can repeat half awake; more compartments will not fix forgotten packs.
Powered cooling: read the Polar temperature caveat
PETLIBRO’s Polar PLAF109 replaces ice packs with thermoelectric cooling. Its FAQ says that in the company’s lab tests, in a 77°F room, it cools food to around 54°F, and that cooling pauses for about 30 minutes before each meal so the food is not served cold. That is far cooler than an ice pack hours later, and still well above the FDA’s 40°F refrigerator setting.
PETLIBRO also says Polar keeps three meals chilled for three days and performs best in a room between 54°F and 86°F. Treat the three days as the maker’s claim, not an independent finding that opened food stays suitable that long. Its page gives two different power-outage backup times (8 and 12 hours), so we quote neither.
Two fit details matter in a small home. PETLIBRO warns that the 7.7 in (20 cm) bowl height may not suit small cats and kittens, and the feeder needs an outlet plus 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for its app. The Amazon listing we checked (B0CQ5D823D) describes an older plastic-bowl Polar, not the current steel bowl, so there is no buying link here; confirm the bowl version before ordering anywhere.
Fit the feeder around the room and your routine
Start with the floor spot. Use the space-fit planner to record the area you can spare. Closer Pets publishes no outside size for either Cat Mate, so measure one or ask the maker before you commit to a tight gap; the PIXI’s 12.5 x 13.5 in (32 x 34 cm) footprint and 3.6 in (9.1 cm) height are published.
Battery power is the C500’s main apartment advantage: no adapter cable across the feeding corner, and Closer Pets says the C500 can be fixed to a board so a determined cat cannot tip it. Use good alkaline batteries. Its support page says zinc cells are not powerful enough and the low-battery warning only works with alkaline ones.
Pick the PIXI instead if changing meals from your phone matters more than a cable-free floor. It needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for the app, and its touch panel gives you a second way to change the schedule. Four C batteries, which Catit says last about 4 days on average, keep it running through a power cut.
In a studio, put noise on your trial checklist. With no decibel figure from any maker, listen through one complete cycle while you are home, and keep the box until you have.
Make tray cleaning part of the choice
Before you choose, picture carrying the food parts to your sink. Closer Pets says the C500’s bowl and lid and the C200’s lids and bowls go in the dishwasher. Catit says the PIXI tray can be rinsed or put in the dishwasher, and PETLIBRO rates the Polar’s steel bowl dishwasher-safe below 212°F. The base with the motor or timer never goes near water.

The FDA asks for bowls and food utensils to be washed in hot, soapy water after every use. Clear and wash the tray before reloading rather than adding a fresh meal on top of an old one, then refill according to the food label and the feeder’s manual.
If sink space is short, give the wet parts a place to drain before reassembly, and decide where the ice packs wait while the tray dries. A routine you can finish beats a bigger tray balanced awkwardly beside the dishes.
Who should skip a wet-food feeder?
Skip the purchase if the real problem is care while you travel. A feeder cannot do the visits described in Cats Protection’s holiday guidance. Arrange that care first, then decide whether a timed tray would make the sitter’s job easier.
Skip it, too, for a cat on a liquid diet: Closer Pets says the C500 is not designed for milk or cat soup, only tinned or pouched wet food and dry food. For a cat whose feeding schedule has been prescribed, ask your vet before changing it. This guide compares devices; it does not set portions or treatment schedules.
Finally, run the whole setup while you can watch it. Check that each opening happens on time, that your cat approaches it comfortably, and that you can clean and reset the parts. If a sitter will use it, have that person practice the same routine, and keep the weekend-away checklist with their instructions.
How these wet-food feeders were chosen
The yardstick for these four tray feeders is the FDA’s advice to refrigerate opened canned food at 40°F or below, which no model here meets. Each is there for a different job rather than as one of five near-copies: meals per load, controls, power source, cooling method and dishwasher-safe parts. Gaps stay visible. Neither Cat Mate has a published size, Closer Pets gives no hours for its ice packs, PETLIBRO’s two backup times disagree so neither is quoted, and noise levels are unpublished across all four.
Wet-food feeder questions
Do automatic cat feeders work with wet food?
Tray feeders do: all four compared here are sold by their makers for wet food. Hopper feeders that drop kibble down a chute do not. The limit is temperature, not the mechanism, so plan wet meals within a few hours of loading, and decide who clears and washes the tray.
What is the best automatic cat feeder for wet food?
The Cat Mate C500 is our pick for most apartments: four timed wet meals, two ice packs and AA batteries, so there is no cable or app. Choose the Catit PIXI if you want up to six meals and phone control, and accept that it needs an outlet.
How can wet food be served during a vacation?
Arrange someone to provide care, then consider a timed feeder as one part of their routine. Cats Protection advises a sitter when a cat stays home. Show that person how to refill, clear and reset the device, and leave the food instructions where they can find them.
Can a cat be left alone for two days with an automatic feeder?
No vet organization we checked gives a safe number of days, and ice packs fade within hours, so wet food alone cannot cover two days. A feeder can stagger meals, but someone still needs to check on your cat, clear old food and refresh water. Plan that visit first.
Which controls help when my apartment has patchy Wi-Fi?
Choose a model you can set at the feeder itself. The C500 has an onboard digital timer and the C200 uses two dials, so neither needs Wi-Fi at all. The PIXI also has a touch panel. Rehearse the exact routine before relying on it, rather than assuming every app feature works offline.
How do I compare a feeder when my kitchen has little sink space?
Start with the removable food-contact pieces and the place where they will drain. The cleaning section identifies the parts makers describe as dishwasher-safe. Consider whether you can carry those pieces out of the feeding corner easily, then plan the washing step before each refill becomes due.
Next step. Before you order a tray, check that it fits your feeding corner in the space-fit planner.
